University of Yamanashi Globalization Policy

  The University of Yamanashi aspires to contribute to the international community by further developing its outstanding characteristics and fields of research from an international perspective, and by widely disseminating the resulting knowledge.

  1. Nurturing Individuals to Play a Proactive Role in the International Community                                  We pledge to nurture individuals who exhibit ethics and autonomy while respecting diversity of culture, language, and values. In addition, we pledge to develop individuals who can play a proactive role in the international community through education that enables them to acquire an international standard of specialized knowledge and experience.
  2. Exchange with Overseas Universities and Research Institutes                                                   We pledge to strategically enter into agreements with overseas universities and research institutes to expand and enhance exchanges of personnel, to expand exchanges of knowledge, to create joint research projects, and to promote the progress of educational research at this University.
  3. The Dissemination of Research for International Development                                                          We pledge to undertake high-quality academic research to address various problems facing the world. Through the development of our research capabilities, and the subsequent dissemination of the findings, we pledge to continue to contribute to the international academic community and the international community at large.
  4. Accepting International Students                                                                                       We pledge to clarify students’ career paths from entrance to graduation and beyond, to continuously admit excellent international students from Asia and elsewhere, and to develop individuals through our rigorous international-standard education and research. We will also actively recruit exchange students from our overseas exchange partner schools.
  5. Support for Students Studying Abroad                                                                                          In order to develop individuals with a broad perspective to play a proactive role in the international community, we pledge to actively support students studying abroad at universities and research institutes with a special emphasis on our overseas exchange partner schools.
  6. Globalized Learning Environment                                                                                        We aim to foster a campus, and ultimately a local community, where students and staff from overseas can gather, interact, and work together regardless of cultural, linguistic and religious differences.

Policy 1. Nurturing Individuals to Play a Proactive Role in the International Community

  We pledge to nurture individuals who exhibit ethics and autonomy while respecting diversity of culture, language, and values. In addition, we pledge to develop individuals who can play a proactive role in the international community by imparting specialized knowledge with an international focus.

Action Plan

  1. Expanding Liberal Arts Education to Inculcate International Perspectives
    1. Multicultural and diverse perspectives must be reflected in the curriculum.
    2. The study of Japanese history and culture must be understood as part of a larger global                 narrative.
    3. Lectures in English should be increasingly offered (including classes related to Japanese                  culture).
    4. Students should be increasingly exposed to English textbooks and materials (texts) in the                 classroom.
  2. Improving Language Skills (Particularly English)
    1. English Classes need to be offered at different levels to be effective
    2. An independent learning environment utilizing e-learning must be made available
    3. Opportunities for encountering communicative English (English cafes, etc.) need  to be made          available
  3. More foreign instructors should be recruited
  4. Encouraging Educational Specializations that are Compatible Internationally
    1. There needs to be recognition of international credit transfers and overseas internships.

Policy 2. Exchange with Overseas Universities and Research Institutes

  We pledge to undertake high-quality academic research to address various problems facing the world. Through the development of our research capabilities, and the subsequent dissemination of the results, we pledge to continue to contribute to the international academic community and the international community at large.

  1. Promote research with high academic standards
  2. Promote joint international research projects
  3. Proactively Disseminate Research Results (with a focus on the perspective of the recipient)             1. The goal should be publication in international journals with high impact factors                       2.
