On December 14, 2025, the University of Yamanashi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The signing ceremony was held on the PUST campus.
PUST was represented by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. S. M. Abdul-Awal, and the University of Yamanashi was represented by Vice President Prof. Masanori Hanawa.

This MoU provides a framework to further deepen academic and research collaboration between the two universities. It focuses on key areas such as the mutual exchange of students and faculty (sending and receiving), the promotion of joint research and academic programs, and the shared use of facilities and resources.

At the ceremony, PUST expressed its commitment to further advancing the development of the next generation of talent through this partnership. The University of Yamanashi also stated its intention to build effective, results-oriented collaboration across education, research, resources, and human resource development, and to develop the relationship into a long-term partnership. In addition, PUST expressed expectations that the MoU would lead to expanded opportunities for study and research in Japan.

As part of the background to this collaboration, the two universities held a workshop at PUST in March 2025 to explore possibilities for research cooperation, particularly in technology-related fields. Potential new research areas were also discussed, including the integration of agricultural and AI technologies tailored to local needs. Furthermore, from October 26 to November 1, 2025, under the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST)’s Sakura Science Program, the University of Yamanashi hosted seven students from PUST for a short-term exchange. During the program, participants engaged in learning opportunities at the university and in laboratories and participated in exchanges that exposed them to advanced science and technology.

Building on these exchanges, the University of Yamanashi will continue to promote mobility of students and researchers and advance joint research initiatives, strengthening its international education and research network.
