Mr. Fujimori Hiroaki and Mr. Masaoka Sho received excellent presentation awards in the 51st Japan National Conference on Geotechnical Engineering held at Okayama University on September 13 – 15th, 2016.

The title of Mr. Fujimori’s presentation was “Study on the grasp and evaluation of the unsaturated seepage behavior of soil by using MRI”. The study suggests that complicated unsaturated seepage behavior can be easily visualized, and these finding will lead to the elucidation of relevance of slope collapse and the piping phenomenon with the rainfall.

Mr. Fujimori said “It is my great honor to receive such a big award. I truly appreciate the cooperation from the members in the lab and the stuff of faculty of medicine for this research.”

The title of Mr. Masaoka’s presentation was “Geotechnical mechanism of large scaled-shallow landslides of Izu-Oshima by heavy rainfall in 2013. 10”. This aimed is to elucidate the mechanism of occurrence of large scaled-shallow landslides that occurred at the layer boundary between the volcanic ash layer and the loess layer of Izu-Oshima, and it shows that the difference in particle size, permeability and strength properties in volcanic ash and less is one of the causes of shallow landslides.

Mr. Masaoka said “I am honored to have received such an award. This award was awarded not only to my ability but also to the support of Professor Goto and co-authors who gave me guidance, and those of the Geotechnical Laboratory that we have studied together. I deeply appreciate it.”
