A paper by Prof. Kenji Miyatake of Clean Energy Research Center and his coworkers, “Poly(para-phenylene) ionomer membranes: effect of methyl and trifluoromethyl substituents”, published in the journal Polymer Chemistry by the Royal Society of Chemistry, was selected to be featured on the front cover of the journal.
This paper reported that poly (para-phenylene sulfonic acid) containing CF3 groups exhibited thin membrane forming capability, high proton conductivity, mechanical strength, gas barrier properties, and chemical stability as proton conductive membranes.
Prof. Miyatake commented that the findings are expected to contribute to energy devices such as high temperature operable fuel cells and water electrolyzers.
