Annual cultural exchange event for international students living in our dormitory, International Residence Hall, and the neighbors (members of Iwakubo Resident’s Association) was held on Nov. 19th, Sat.
This was the 13th of annual event and about 100 people took part in the event this time.

International students introduced their cultures by entertaining neighbors with their hand-made dishes. There were 15 kinds of dishes from 10 countries and region (Nepal, Pakistan, Malaysia, China, Germany, U.K., France, Australia, Vietnam, Korea and Taiwan), and all these traditional genuine dishes entertained participants and even reminded them cultures of these countries.

After that, international students experienced Mochi-tsuki (pounding steamed rice into mochi) which was the highlight of this event. With kind guidance by members of Iwakubo Resident’s Association, some of international students tried Mochi-tsuki with very cheerful shouts by Japanese students from Fuyo-Ryo (Dormitory for male students of University of Yamanashi next to International Residence Hall).
After enjoying the taste of just pounded mochi, participants enjoyed dancing together (traditional festival dance of Yamanashi) and a song sung by the students. This event must have been the heartwarming experience for every participants.

We, the Center for International Education and Exchange & Office of International Affairs, are holding many kinds of events other than this! Please check our website or CNS for the details.
