Dr. Kazuyoshi Souma and Mr. Ryosuke Noyori were awarded by the River Fund at the River Foundation.
The research group led by Dr. Kazuyoshi Souma (Associate Professor; Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering) and conducted with research collaborator Mr. Ryosuke Noyori (a graduate in 2014 of the Special Master Course Program at the Interdisciplinary Research Centre for River Basin Environment at the University of Yamanashi) was awarded the Superior Performance Prize for a project subsidized by the River Fund at the River Foundation in 2015.
The award-winning project was titled “Implementation of Detailed Urban Environmental Information for Localized Heavy Rainfall Predictions in the Keihan Region and Evaluation of Relevant Effects.” The project proposed a method for estimating urban environmental information in a detailed manner and with coverage of a broad area by utilizing statistical data and GIS data. The proposed method imports data to a numerical meteorological model with the goal of improving prediction accuracy for localized heavy rainfalls.
Dr. Souma delivered the following comments: “This project was implemented jointly with Mr. Noyori, who was performing research for his master’s thesis, and I feel very privileged to be granted such a honor. The members of the Hydro-Engineering group in the Interdisciplinary Research Centre for River Basin Environment as well as the Base for Fostering Young Research Leaders in Leading-Edge Areas provided us much cooperation and advice. I wish to take this opportunity to express our gratitude.”
