Homestay in Kofu

Hello, everyone!
I am HUANG PO LUN from Taiwan.

I am a foreign student of master’s degree which belongs to Mechatronics Engineering Faculty of Graduate School of Engineering of Integrated Graduate School of Medicine, Engineering, and Agricultural Science in University of Yamanashi.

Today, I would like to introduce a homestay with a four-people Japanese family in Kofu.

The center for Promotion of Internationalization and International Office in University of Yamanashi holds a homestay activity for foreign students once a year. By holding this activity, the globalization center hopes that foreign students can understand Japanese daily life and Japanese cultural more.

This homestay was held within two days and one night. In addition, there are an older sister and a younger brother that are studying in the affiliated school of University of Yamanashi in this homestay family. Besides, there is a foreign student from Vietnam joining this homestay family with me. Here, I would like to introduce the activities we did on these two days.

First day:

After meeting with the homestay family in the campus of University of Yamanashi and having lunch, we went to a blueberry farm near Chiyoda Lake and Kofu City and ate blueberries. We also played an interesting small game that we compared who picked the biggest and heaviest blueberry. We ate blueberries while drinking cold tea. After that, we took pictures at a deck where we could see Mt. Fuji on the way home because it was sunny on that day. After going back home of the homestay family, we had a “takoyaki” party as dinner. We introduced our culture and living habits while eating “takoyaki”. After having dinner, it was interesting to play games (monopoly, poker cards, and so on) with children in this homestay family.

Second day:

We went to some famous scenic spots near Kofu City in the morning. For example, we went to a Japanese “sake” winery called “Shichiken (Yamanashi Meijyo)” that Emperor Meiji had been there before, and we also went to a Japanese snack (wakashi) shop called “Keiseiken” that has been above 100 years across from that winery. In addition, we play table tennis with children of the homestay family because they are good at playing it in the afternoon. Moreover, we went to take hot spring after playing table tennis to relax, and we had dinner before saying goodbye to the homestay family.

It was truly an interesting and precious experience to have a homestay, so please participate it if you are interested in it.
