PediatricsThe Department of Pediatrics at the University of Yamanashi provides local, regional and international leadership in promoting childhood wellness and health, as well as elucidating some of the genetic and molecular mechanisms of disease pathogenesis, particularly malignant disorders. It includes groups of hematology/oncology, endocrinology, neurology, nephrology, and cardiology.

General Description of Research Activities (Themes)Hematology/Oncology Group
This group conducts clinical research focusing on chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for pediatric hematological and oncological diseases. Basic research on molecules involved in the growth and apoptosis of leukemic cells is also conducted.
Neurology Group
The group of Pediatric neurology elucidates the mechanisms of higher cortical
functions and dysfunctions in normal children, adolescences, and developmental
disorders, particularly ADHD, and LD.
Pediatric Nephrology Group
Goal of the treatment for our patients or our clinical research are primarily the complete recovery and secondly the improvement of long term prognosis of nephritis, Cakut, and other nephrological diseases.
Cardiology Group
The group conducts research on intra-myocardial cell calcium dynamics using the cardiac arrest model in rats. It is also developing a new catheter intervention device. Clinical research on the comprehensive treatment for pediatric cardiomyopathy is carried out.
Endocrinology Group
Pediatric endocrinology, diabetes and metabolic diseases:
All these fields are covered by Board-certified sub-specialists, including clinical and basic research on growth and sexual development, thyroid and adreal disorders, type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome according to patients' life cycles, especially focusing on children and adolescents. |
