First Department of Internal Medicine

General description of the First Department of Internal Medicine

The goal of our department is to contribute to both medical services and research effort of the university as a department of comprehensive gastroenterology by providing integrated services in medical practice, education, and research related to liver, pancreas, biliary tract, and digestive tract diseases. In order to achieve this goal, we need two things. The first one is "improvement". We must improve our knowledge, technology, and systems to be able to practice safe, advanced, and effective medicine in a wide range of gastroenterology. The second one is "innovation". We must seek innovation in science and technology in order to challenge gastrointestinal disorders such as malignant tumors and chronic inflammation, which are difficult to treat with existing therapeutic approaches. Our research activies aim at new methods of diagnosis and treatment using novel imaging and interventional techniques as well as molecular gastroenterology.
